Belly, A Visual Appreciation is a photographic study of the art of belly dance. Generally accepted as the oldest dance form in the world, belly dance is alive and well in the U.S., yet often misunderstood and misrepresented. The belly dancer is simply not viewed as a true artist in many social circles. This book challenges that stigma and provides a visual and educational experience created to cultivate a new-found respect for the art of belly dance.
Robert McCurley has enjoyed photography for more than 20 years. His artistic muses are varied and eclectic, but generally incorporate a human aspect or presence. Once an idea has been formed, Robert prefers to approach his subjects organically, relying on serendipity and trusting that the desired process and path will reveal itself as he works. His photographs have been exhibited in a variety of venues across the U.S. Robert is a founding member of Southlight Salon and makes his home in Franklin, Tennessee.
