Diamond Beach Sunrise ©Bill Lutin
I’ve always been fascinated by late autumn and winter photography. Nature makes the most beautiful transitions from fall to winter with animals gathering and storing food, mountain streams swollen with rain, riotous color of the foliage, ice with its colors and reflections, and landscapes blanketed with snow. These images come from around the world: the Smoky Mountains, the American West, out backyard in Augusta, Georgia, Alaska, and Iceland. The pictures show the subtle beauty of the season and the preparations wildlife make for cold weather.
BIO:
Dr. Bill Lutin was born in Tennessee, educated at Princeton (BA), Vanderbilt (MD, PhD). He trained at Vanderbilt (Residency) and UCSF (Fellowship). He has lived in Georgia 34 years. He is a photographer who got his start 53 years ago working in scientific and medical photography in the days of wet chemicals and silver-based photo prints. Bill retired after a 31-year career in pediatric cardiology at Yale University School of Medicine and Medical College of Georgia. During that time, Bill had the opportunity to travel extensively as a clinician and teacher, and he has always carried a camera with him, capturing images of our world and rendering it as he sees it onto prints. About 20 years ago, he began to concentrate on nature photography, with a strong interest in landscapes, wildlife, moving water, and weather. Recently, he has had the opportunity to travel widely and observe wildlife biology firsthand. Bill believes in the fundamental beauty of the world, the magic of light, and in the power that pictures have to make us feel good. He is an active participant in the Healing Artist Program at MCG, the Georgia and North American Nature Photographers Associations, the Audubon Society, the American College of Cardiology, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Sierra Club. His photographs have been published and recognized with awards in local, regional, and national competitions. He has given hundreds of presentations on medical, photographic, and conservation topics. Bill is married to Kerry Kline and has two incredible and creative children, Mike and Mandie. Their help, advice, support, and encouragement gave him the impetus to share his images with the world.
